How To: Gaming
THE HOW TO CO. — EDITION 10
Every other chapter in this region is an invented picture. This one is a photograph of something that actually happened — printed a fixed number of times — and on the cards the market actually chases, that number is stamped on the card. Learn to read it and most of the hobby stops being a mystery.
A base card has a print run like everything else. It is simply never published — which is why the first card above is a tone rather than a count, and why it has no top edge. A parallel is the same picture on different stock, printed to a fixed number and stamped with it. The grading, the chasing and the prices all sit downstream of that one number.
Three different questions, and you only need the one you are actually asking.

“A population report is the only honest voice in sports cards. It does not care whose name is on the card — only how many have already been graded better than yours.”READ: HOW TO READ A POPULATION REPORT →
