How To: Gaming
THE HOW TO CO. — EDITION 10
THE DETAIL
Inside the collar is a small gimbal with two potentiometers, and each one is a wiper dragging across a resistive track. Every hour you play wears that track a little. Drift is what happens when the worn part of the track no longer reads as centre — which is why cleaning sometimes helps and why, eventually, only replacement does.

FROM THE CURATOR
Everyone who has played for more than five years has one. Four controllers, three of them pulling gently left, all kept because throwing away something that mostly works feels wrong. Open the drawer. Two of them are twelve pounds and twenty minutes from being fine. The other two were never going to be. Knowing which is which is this whole chapter.
