Slot 08 is the smallest corner of this room and the only one where the equipment is aimed at you rather than the other way round.

THREE WAYS IN

Everything this station does is invisible until it goes wrong, so it is worth drawing. The lens sees a narrow wedge and nothing outside it. The light throws a wider, softer one that decides what that wedge looks like. The microphone hears in a heart shape that is loud in front and nearly deaf behind — which is why turning it slightly is worth more than replacing it.

Turn the mic, move the lamp

The two changes that improved my stream most were free. I turned the microphone about thirty degrees so the keyboard sat in its dead spot, and I moved the light off the top of the monitor to forty-five degrees on my left. That was it. No purchase, one evening, and the difference is larger than anything I have bought since.
